Higher L(earn)ing: Higher Expectations, Higher Outcomes
We DEMAND Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) raise the standards required for students to graduate, in order to ensure that students are better equipped for post-secondary success.
Did you know?
Most colleges in the UNC system require a 2.5 gpa for admission, yet there is no gpa requirement to graduate from CMS.
Programs like credit recovery are being abused to boost graduation numbers for the state and district, yet, they are doing a disservice to students.
We are asking for:
- Uniformity: One uniform system of credit recovery throughout the district, held after-school, with a teacher in that content area.
- Transparency: Signed, informed, parental consent for students enrolling in credit recovery. Parents and students must be made aware of the implications of taking credit recovery as well as alternatives to the program.
- Accountability: Track Credit Recovery Data Separately from traditional matriculation data. Require minimum 2.0 gpa or CTE certification (post-secondary plan) to graduate.
