Denver Public Schools Need A Mental Health Counselor Petition
We demand that the Denver Public Schools Board of Education hire a full-time mental health counselor in every school, and that those counselors are predominately people of color, in order to be reflective of the students they will serve.
Recently we delivered a testimony to the Denver Public School Board of Education to share student stories and demonstrate why mental health is a schools issue.
Our short term goal is to demand the DPS Board of education pass a resolution that establishes goals for whole child supports in the Denver Plan 2020.
Striving towards this goal we believe a full-time mental health counselor who is representative of the students they serve is a step towards whole child support.
A full-time mental health counselor is important because 1 in 5 K-12 students struggle with mental health in Denver Public Schools.
