Our Theory of Change

1. Identify and Train College Students

We connect with students who have overcome education inequality, have the political will to call for change, come from the communities they organize in, and are often first-generation college students. Our student network and staff offer training support to teach our members organizing skills.

2. Organize for Action

Our members educate and inspire others about crucial policy issues that affect students. SFER chapters partner with local community organizations to lead grassroots campaigns in order to change state and district-level school policies.

3. Build New Power to Accelerate Reform

Our members’ organizing work builds new power among communities that have been traditionally underserved by public schools, and supports those communities as they continue to demand changes to education policies that will better serve students.

Past Campaigns & Events

We’ve tackled 13 issues since 2009, such as school finance reform, school discipline, the Common Core, and improving teacher pay schedules.
